style-like-kacey-marmalade-12So fresh and so clean! My “lob” (long bob) is on trend and I love it!

I’ve been going to Marmalade salon since the owners, Nicky and Jenna, started it in 2001. I was captivated by this salon as soon as I set foot in the door, because it was one of the first local businesses in the area to offer a young and fresh perspective – they offer a bright and colorful space filled with inspiration, laughter and a beautiful blend of fashion and beauty!

Since moving to L.A., I have struggled to find a good hairdresser (at a reasonable price…). When I booked my trip home to Sarasota, I was so excited because I knew I’d be able to see Jenna for an appointment. I was in desperate need of a haircut, but I waited and waited until I came home.

Once again, I got the best haircut I could ask for and it was only $50.00… try finding that in L.A. Ha! Jenna just knows how to cut hair. My mom goes to her too and has been a loyal customer for years.

If you live in the Sarasota / Bradenton area, I highly recommend you book an appointment with Jenna and Nicky at Marmalade salon! Marmalade continues to be one of the hippest small businesses in the Sarasota area – show them some love!

Until next time Marmalade…

I am so excited to announce my new job as Associate Designer for Wilster Apparel Group!

Felicity & Coco is the company’s main fashion label and is sold exclusively at Nordstrom’s. Felicity & Coco is known for their high fashion dresses, quality fabrics, and accessible price points.

A few weeks ago, my friend Gaby and I were invited to the Los Angeles Fashion Week Wrap Party in Hollywood and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to represent the Felicity & Coco brand! Gaby and I strutted around that event as if we were part of the show, representing 2 of the brands best-selling dresses!

Gaby is wearing a flirty cut-out back fit and flare dress and I am wearing an ultra feminine floral fit and flare dress with full circle skirt… and if you ask me, we stole the show!

I am thrilled to be part of the amazing team at Wilster Apparel and to have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of this already successful company! The company has several labels (and counting) offered at different price points in department stores across the nation. You no doubt will be seeing me represent these labels in the future… and I hope you will too! Next time you are in Nordstrom’s, be sure to check us out!

PS – My beautiful friend, Gabriela, is visiting the U.S.A. from Mexico and she designs beautiful Amber jewelry for Ramona’s Accesorios in Chiapas, Mexico! Estoy feliz que estamos amigas!

I love that rare occasion when out of the corner of my eye I catch an item so enchanting, it completely inspires me! This lacey vintage dress with midi hemline, is not my typical style, but when I spotted it, it was a pleasant surprise! Flaunted by its effortless femininity, this dress was a fashionable chance worth taking!

Every now and then, I like to buy something totally out of the norm and see what I can do with it. I just love these crazy pants with the bold graphic print and side slits running down the outside of the legs! I found them in a cute store in my neighborhood, called Heavenly Couture, where everything costs only $16.00! I kept the outfit simple – I wore them high-waisted (on trend) with nothing but a simple bodysuite and a pair of heels. My boyfriend and I ventured into downtown for dinner and we ended up at Bottega Louie (yum!). When I sat down to eat, to my surprise, both of my legs were completely exposed… all-the-way-up! Oops. These pants are so fun and when the mood strikes, I’ll definitely wear them again!

The brand is inspired by life and culture in Mexico, as well as symbolic religious imagery, and is best known for its Virgins Saints & Angels necklaces, including their classic San Benito rosaries and cross pendants. Influential celebrities like Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Beyonce have all been seen strutting down the red carpet wearing VSA’s striking jewelry designs.

Coachella 2015 is right around the corner. This is the place where many Spring trends are born, thanks to the fashionistas who flaunt their most creative outfits. If you’re one of the lucky ones going to this amazing music festival this year, it’s time to start cultivating your most thought-out ensemble and rock your boho best! Flower crowns are the most covetable hairstyles for festival-goers, but this year, why not take it a step beyond the traditional headgear, and flash an alluring tiara on your head? The tiara trend is a luxe update to the flower crown and will add captivating interest amid the sea of tousled braids, buns and waves. Shall we call you Queen of Coachella or do you prefer Goddess of the Desert?

Marsala: Pantone Color Of The Year 2015

Marsala is the new neutral for 2015!

For those of you that don’t know, as described in the About Us section on the Pantone website, “The PANTONE® name is known worldwide as the standard language for color communication from designer to manufacturer to retailer to customer.” In the fashion industry, we rely on Pantone colors all the time – we have huge books containing little swatches of color and we can communicate the color codes to vendors overseas. Pantone colors are a universal language. Every year, Pantone chooses a “color of the year”. Once they announce the color of the year, THAT is the color you will see everywhere – from fashion to beauty to interior design. If you would like to learn more about their process for how they choose the color each year, watch here.

For 2015, the color is Marsala – an earthy wine red that is flattering against any skin tone! Check out “color pairings” that combine well with Marsala, by clicking here (scroll down a little).

In the collage above, I have provided you with 3 products, that are toxin free, that you can purchase online in the Marsala hue. I have not yet tried 2 of these brands myself, but I did do research on them and other non toxic beauty bloggers have great things to say!

1. Alima Pure Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow, in Black Orchid. I personally love Alima Pure and you can read my review about their products here.

2. Honeybee Gardens Watercolors Nail Enamel, in Romance. Check out what Wellness Mama has to say about this brand.

3. Illia Lipstick, in Femme Fatale.

Fashion Side Note: Suede, believe it or not, is predicted to be a big trend THIS SUMMER… I’m already imagining a pair of suede shoes, suede shorts, or even a beautiful suede jacket – in MARSALA – making its way into my closet, very soon! Imagine all the vintage fashion you can find in this color too…

In the collage below, I have provided you with 3 products that you can find right now at most drugstores – in MARSALA! Although I usually try to use toxin free products, I’m not perfect, and if you’re anything like me, when I get excited about something, I want it NOW! You can do head-to-toe Marsala if you’d like (see picture below), or if you want to pair it with other colors, don’t forget to check out Marsala’s perfect color pairings as mentioned and linked above.

Now get out there and start representing this amazing color!

The Jogger Pant

style-like-kacey-jogger-pant-020 style-like-kacey-jogger-pant-008

The Jogger Pant is spreading all over the market for both men and women. You can walk into any store and they will be displayed in every corner.

What is The Jogger Pant? It is quickly becoming a new category in the fashion industry being described as “casual-contemporary”. These days, for both men and women, it’s all about the tailorness of the pant. The Jogger has a tapered, slim fitting leg, and a casual feel because of the cinched cuffs at the ankles. They aren’t necessarily sweatpants, but they also aren’t a pair of jeans or chinos. This new pant trend provides another option in our closets and is quickly becoming a staple item!

MEN: With the limited silhouettes that are offered to men, The Jogger Pant (Zara) provides another option as something that can be worn as an everyday, casual item, and not just something that’s fashion forward. The result is a dapper pair of pants that are universal in how they can be worn. They are perfect for showing off your awesome sneakers (Steve Madden) while lounging around on the weekends, or, the big trend now for men, is to wear them with dress loafers (Aldo) and a slim fit blazer (Zara) for easy sophistication!

WOMEN: We are the lucky ones when it comes to fashion with endless silhouettes to choose from and to get creative with! I love taking an item and pushing the limits of it. That’s why I thought it would be brilliant to dress my Jogger’s (Cotton On) up with a pair of high heels (Steve Madden) and a tailored crop blazer (Zara)! Easy sophistication… and comfort!

The Jogger Pant offers a new category in fashion for both men and women and because it is universal – it can be worn dressed up or dressed down – this pant is a winner for everyone and is a trend that is going to last for a very long time! So go get yourself a pair and style them… well… anyway you want!

A big thank you to my boyfriend, Marc, for being my “man” model.

I’m excited to announce, that for my next fashion post, I will be dedicating the entire post to Virgin Saints and Angels amazing jewelry line! Below I am wearing a piece from their San Benito collection! Stay tuned to see this featured post!

My Top 5 Favorite Uses For Coconut Oil

Is there anything coconut oil can’t do?

Today I talk about my 5 favorite uses for coconut oil – from beauty routines to sex! But first let me talk about the importance of the quality of coconut oil. Not all coconut oils are created equal and this plays a major role in the purity of the oil.

Words to stay away from when selecting your coconut oil (and other oils):

1. Refined: this typically means that the oil is extracted using solvents like bleaching and deodorizing. Not good! This process ruins the purity of the oil and leaves you with a rancid oil – you do not want to be putting this on your skin or cooking with it!

2. Hydrogenated: Basically it means it’s not edible. Just gross. Stay away!

3. Liquid Coconut Oil: This is a new marketing term. Coconut oil becomes solid in colder temperatures and melts when heated. Liquid coconut oil is marketed as always staying liquid, even at colder temperatures. Stay away! This oil is highly refined.

Words to look for when selecting your coconut oil (and other oils):

1. Virgin: This is a process of pressing the oil out rather than chemically extracting it.  This is good, but, this term is not regulated yet, so some manufacturers may use this term to try to trick consumer into buying an oil that is actually refined. Research the company.

2. Cold Pressed: This is better than Expeller Pressed because the oil is extracted at lower temperatures, keeping the integrity of the oil and leaving it with a mild flavor. Note: You may see labels with “Expeller Pressed”. This is okay, but the oil has been extracted at a higher temperature and can degrade the quality of it, as well as leave a more nutty flavor, making it less desirable to cook with.

3. Organic: Actually, save your money. Coconuts are non-GMO and no pesticides are used on them. So it really isn’t necessary to chose Organic, but that’s up to you.

My favorite coconut oil on the market is Tropical Traditions. They are a small family owned company that do things right!

#1. Makeup Remover:

Coconut oil is amazing for removing tough makeup like mascara! I use a cotton square, get it moist with water (this helps to loosen the makeup so it’s not dried) and then a dab of coconut oil. Apply to the eye area and gently rub.

The makeup comes right off! It’s cheap, non-toxic, doesn’t sting, and leaves the delicate skin around the eye area moisturized (won’t clog pores)! This is my absolute favorite use for coconut oil!

#2. Non-Toxic Deodorant:

Coconut oil is antimicrobial and great for neutralizing odors!

Most of us know by now that deodorants can be filled with toxic chemicals, including aluminum. There is much controversy over these products and their relation to causing cancer. I opt to stay away from them! So I make my own deodorant using a simple concoction of fresh lemon juice and coconut oil. I just cut a small lemon segment and dab it under my arms. It can sting just a little, especially if you have just shaved, but it doesn’t bother me. I then use a bit of coconut oil (takes the sting away) and there you have it! You can also make a mixture of these ingredients and add some baking soda (make sure it is aluminum free). Some people claim that the lemon juice changes the PH balance of your skin, but for me, that is a small price to pay compared to using highly toxic deodorants. I will warn you though, this method may not be the best option when wearing a white shirt…

If you don’t want to make your own deodorant, try this one.

#3. Non-Toxic Toothpaste:

Toothpaste can also be filled with toxic chemicals, including fluoride. Again, I opt for using a different method to avoid exposing myself to these toxins. Coconut oil is great for brushing your teeth! I mix coconut oil, baking soda, and peppermint extract. That’s it! This mixture keeps my teeth pearly white! Add as much or as little coconut oil to the baking soda to get your desired consistency. Store in a dark glass jar.

#4. Massage Oil:

Coconut oil makes the best massage oil! A little dab goes a long way and lasts forever! It is also extremely nourishing for the skin. No need to use lotions that dry up in seconds and make it so you have to keep applying them. Plus, most lotions are filled with toxic chemicals. Coconut oil is also great to use an all over body moisturizer. But do beware that it is still an oil and may stain your clothes or sheets.

* #5. Personal Lubricant:

Yes, that’s right, coconut oil is the new lube!

Even I was skeptical at first, wondering if it was safe to go… up inside? I have concluded, yes, it’s perfectly safe!

Coconut oil is all-natural and doesn’t contain any preservatives… and it is very lubricating. I have also read online that it is anti-fungal and may even help with things like yeast infections. But you must choose a high-quality oil! You do not want to be putting rancid, chemically extracted oil up inside of you.

Most oils are chemically extracted and are rancid before they even hit the shelves. Rancid oil can easily erode the surface of a latex condom. Which can lead to breaks in the condom.

I personally have tested high-quality coconut oil on latex condoms. The first time I did it I rubbed the oil all over a spare condom and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Then I took the condom and stretched it and pulled it to see if it would become weak, tear or break… it didn’t. I then took it a step further and cautiously used the oil during intimacy… the condom still didn’t break. Now I keep a small glass jar of coconut oil next to my bed… we never have a problem. But please do your own testing before trusting this method.

There are so many uses for coconut oil. It is the best oil for cooking with at high temperatures. Additionally, it is a medium-chain fatty acid, which means it metabolizes quickly in the body and won’t be stored as fat! It is full of antioxidants, and when consumed internally, it can help with things like digestion and can improve the appearance of your skin.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and get some coconut oil and start having fun!

* Many people are allergic to coconut. Please do not try these methods if you are allergic to coconut and be sure to test the oil on small portions of your skin before using.

style-like-kacey-alima-pure-makeup-face-hairThe final outcome… a perfectly natural look!

As I grow older I have learned to become more knowledgeable about my health. I’ve learned not to trust marketing and to do my own research. I research everything that I put in my body and everything that I put on my body. I read the ingredients in everything I buy. Yes, I’m that girl standing in the grocery store aisle, reading.

I recently switched my makeup products to Alima Pure mineral makeup because their products are non-toxic, have no preservatives, are not tested on animals, and are affordable! Check out their ingredients page. Nothing feels better than knowing that when I put on my makeup every morning, I’m not slathering toxic chemicals all over my face or inhaling them. When I go to kiss and hug my boyfriend, it puts my mind at ease to know that I’m not exposing him to harmful toxins.

So far I am very happy with the products I have incorporated into my beauty routine!
